The Young Author Workshop & Publishing Program is an interactive literacy and creativity experience that takes students through the full process of becoming published authors. From story concept to printed book, students build confidence, learn storytelling techniques, and bring their imaginations to life.

This program helps children see themselves as creators, not just readers — and gives them a tangible product to share with their community.

Program Activities Include:

• Guided writing sessions to develop story ideas
• Character creation and plot building
• Collaboration with illustrators and editors
• Book design and printing
• Author-led read-alouds in schools or libraries
• Book launch celebration or classroom showcase

Program Format

• Designed for elementary school students (K–5)
• Delivered over multiple sessions (typically 3–5)
• Can be hosted during or after school hours
• Includes all writing materials, book printing, and facilitation
• Each student receives 25 printed copies of their book to sell, gift, or share

The HBCU Road to Excellence Program is a culturally affirming literacy experience for middle and high school students that blends reading, real-world discussions, and exposure to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

This interactive program helps students:

• Connect with their identity through stories
• Explore themes of confidence, belonging, and excellence
• See college as an attainable, empowering path
• Develop writing and communication skills in a safe, relatable space

Program Activities Include:

• Reading and engaging with youth-authored books
• Guided sessions from our Road to Excellence Curriculum
• Real author or mentor visits
• Identity-building and goal-setting discussions
• Group sharing, journaling, and reading reflections

Program Format

• Designed for use in classrooms or after-school programs
• Typically delivered over 2–3 sessions
• Can be facilitated by a Brown Book Company instructor or trained educator
• All materials provided, including student worksheets and a facilitator guide

Sharing Stories Across Generations! We love bringing smiles and stories to our elders! During our Read & Reach visits, young readers join us at nursing homes and community centers to read aloud, laugh, and connect with older generations. It's a special time where wisdom meets wonder—and everyone leaves with a full heart.
